All in all our current drug policy represents a human and financial cost that will become increasingly unbearable. $50,000 per year for one prisoner is more than the cost of a year at Harvard and the true costs of prison are rarely reported. This is an organization of retired police officers who worked the streets and found the current policies to be against the best interests of society. They will come to speak in your community if asked. As to Shifty and Lefty and company, many are breaking into prison to escape the social conditions they find on release and despite claims by some that they are given new chances, it is hard for them to see it that way when they have no where to go and no money at all to get there if they did and so, they go back to prison and are followed by their children. Third generation and fourth generation prisoners are now a common occurrence. All preventive value has been lost when people break into prison, but it needs to be remembered that prison is the right placement for those with blood on their hands, who are a small minority of those in prison today. The real problem with our drug laws is that entirely the wrong people are paying for the decision to use made by others. The innocent pay for our drug laws with hard earned cash and sometimes with blood. End prohibition now if only because America can’t afford to have 200 billion dirty dollars floating around out politicians, police and others whose hands are greased by drug money. There is a level of temptation that it is foolish to expose most people to and we have reached that level, years ago.
